Psychosis

A condition that causes the mind to lose contact with reality

Psychosis is a mental health problem that changes how your brain receives and perceives information. It leads to zoning away from reality which is a symptom of an underlying problem, not an actual illness. It is usually triggered by mental trauma, past physical injury, chronic disease, or substance abuse. Young people, in particular, are concerned, but there haven’t been many studies as to why. Each case of psychosis is different, and the exact cause is not always clear. There are triggers, some triggers for psychosis such as drug abuse, lack of sleep, and other environmental factors. In addition, certain conditions can lead to certain types of psychosis. In general, some of the factors involved in psychosis are:

Psychosis is diagnosed through a psychological evaluation where screening of the person’s behavior and queries about their feelings are taken under consideration. Diagnostic tests and X-rays can determine if the underlying disease is causing symptoms. Treatments for psychosis may include a combination of medications and therapy. Most people experience an improvement in their symptoms with treatment.
